The Ominous by Boss Kelly is a thrilling story that follows a girl named Maddie North. Maddie lived her life as a normal girl, with normal friends, and a normal life. That is, until she falls into a coma that lasts for six months. It is then that she realizes she has superpowers and she can read people's minds, and learns that she is a half alien hybrid. When she finds out that her mom and friends have been keeping her in an underground bunker used to study people like her, she runs away, fighting the guards as she goes. With nowhere left to go, Maddie gets on a train headed for Zen Academy. But when the true nature of the alien Chancellor (the person who runs the school) is revealed, Maddie, her friends, Adrian and Eric, and a few other hybrids must escape. But will they be able to?
I enjoyed reading The Ominous by Boss Kelly. This book has everything, from superpowers to aliens. The writing is descriptive, and helps the reader to vividly picture what's happening in the story. The book has some funny parts, especially in the main character, Maddie's, narration. I was hooked by the first page, and I never wanted to put the book down. The characters are likeable, because they are brave and smart. The story is very exciting and it has many scenes filled with action and suspense. This is a real page turner, and will keep the reader glued to their seat, wondering what will happen next. The story is absolutely thrilling from cover to cover. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone.
