The Onyx Seed by R.W. Harrison is a supernatural thriller set in a small town in New York, after World War II. Larry McConnell drowned under mysterious circumstances in a local lake, leaving a pregnant young wife behind, but his body is never found. A few years later, Margaret McConnell takes in a boarder and strange things start happening around the house. The sheriff is beginning to think that one of his deputies, Charlie, is behind Larry's death and goes after him, while Margaret calls on the help of a psychic to get to the bottom of the strange happenings in her house. The psychic pinpoints a dresser in Margaret’s son’s room, a dresser Larry had made, as being the source of the phenomena. A deeper look reveals something evil, something that Larry brought back with him from the war in the Philippines. The evil is ancient and it has just been unleashed on the town. Can it be destroyed in time? And what is the connection between Larry and Charlie?

The Onyx Seed by R.W. Harrison was one of those fast books that just kept on moving. This is Mr Harrison’s first novel and I was impressed at the quality of the writing, the well thought out plot and the overall development of the story. The story was written in an engaging manner and the characters fitted in perfectly. I also liked that fact that the ending has been left open for a sequel at some point in the future. Loved the story, and I hope to read more from Mr Harrison very soon. I believe he has a very bright future ahead of him!
