What’s in a name? And more importantly, what’s in the many names of God that are mentioned in the Bible. The Bible refers to God with such names as Elohim: The All-Powerful Creator; Jehovah: The Self-Revealing One; Adonai: The Owner of All; Jehovah-Jireh: The Lord Who Provides; Jehovah Shalom: The Lord Our Peace; Jehovah Rophe: The Lord Who Heals; Jehovah Robi: The Lord My Shepherd; and Immanuel: God With Us. And these are just some of the names we see in the Bible that refer to our Powerful God. In The Power of God’s Names, author Tony Evans takes each name and teaches the meaning and background of the name, the power and importance of the name. Because of the depth of God’s character, He has various names that reflect the many ways He relates to humanity.
Sometimes when I hear preachers or someone refer to God through one of His many different names, I am not quite sure what it all means. But Tony Evans has written this amazing book that teaches everything possible about each name. The hours of research and Bible study are evident in the pages of this book, and his knowledge of God’s word is amazing. Evans writes this book with ease and on a level that everyone can understand what he is teaching. Sometimes when I was reading, the truths were so clear that I just wanted to go back and keep reading it over and over. This is truly a book you will want to have in your library. And it is a book that can be read one chapter at a time; you don’t have to read the entire book at one time. I strongly encourage you to check out The Power of God’s Names by Tony Evans.
