The Purple Shell is a wonderful book that tells us about ecology with enthusiasm and useful lessons. Maritza M. Mejia surprises us again with another of her English-Spanish bilingual books. Here she brings us the story of an adorable girl who goes with her mother on a trip to the beach. When they arrive, the girl sees garbage on the sand and she becomes discouraged. She and her mother do the right thing as they clean the beach and have an enjoyable time together. The book is very well written. The story highlights vocabulary, including definitions, to help children learn new words, and has an additional coloring-in section. Every page is well presented.
I loved the bilingual aspect because that opens the possibility for a new perspective. Learning languages can be useful, but the topic of ecology remains the main theme because caring for the environment should concern us. The world is our home and we have to respect it. The Purple Shell is a book that I highly recommend. The visual aspect is charming, and the choice of colors is very consistent. In addition, the sections at the end of the book are very helpful. I was delighted with the warmth and beauty which Maritza M. Mejia showcases here. This book is perfect for learning and having fun.
