The Quirky Clan by Anna Rains follows both sides of her family, with one lineage traced back to William the Conqueror. She received help from the military archives of the UK armed forces, which enabled her to include many tales of her ancestors. As she tells her story, written for the benefit of present and future generations, she sets the scene for her own life experiences. She moved house forty-eight times and lived in several countries. She has reminiscences of all of them. She has lived in a bus and worked in a circus, resided on farms, or in suburbia as she experienced Hong Kong, California, France, and several parts of the United Kingdom. We met the many members of her family, and several of them shared her successes and mishaps. She has travelled to many places, some exotic, and held a multitude of different jobs as well as running her own businesses. Now, at over eighty, she has shared her story with the world and has plenty more in store in the future.
I thought the most interesting part of The Quirky Clan by Anna Rains was her recounting of the supernatural powers she possesses. Sprinkled throughout the book, she sees ghosts, reads palms, and has visions that pass on messages to those she encounters. Her family members are extensive, and I can understand when she says that Christmas is an expensive time of the year. Reading about her many achievements is uplifting, as there are very few of us who manage to cram in so many hobbies, skills, and friendships as Rains has had over the years. It was also fascinating to read about the family lineage going back so many generations. This is a vignette of dozens of encounters, from balls to sailing, to flying, to house moving, along with sorrows and joys. From near poverty to great wealth, it has been a roller coaster life well lived to the full.
