The Scepter of Harmony and two of the missing gems (emerald and ruby) have been recovered. Now, the rebellious group of children intent on overthrowing the malevolent King Argyle race to recover the third gem, the Sapphire of Poseidon. Argyle is at war with Queen Kyrie, and the small band of insurgents must find a way across the Great Lake while avoiding the king’s fleet and the kraken he’s released. Time is of the essence as Argyle is also after the gems. All he needs is one of them to stop the insurrection and regain an ironclad rule over the kingdom, and the hope of freedom for Daniel, Aiden, Lilly, Olivia and their friends and allies will be lost forever.
I read book one in this series, Scepter, in 2013, The Emerald of Phaunos in 2014, and The Ruby of Helios in 2016 and now, with The Sapphire of Poseidon I think I can honestly consider myself something of an expert in the Scepter Series. That I could grab book four and pick up where the story left off (for me) two years ago is testimony to Scott L. Collins’ unforgettable story and storytelling acumen. Written for the Young Adult audience, these books are a delight for all ages (I’m a grandfather). Writing a story, any story, is no easy endeavor, but to put together a complex, multi-character, multi-plot fantasy tale with consistency over a six-year period is a monumental achievement.
From Scepter to The Sapphire of Poseidon, the characters have grown in wisdom and skill as they would in real life. The individual paranormal talents of the main characters have remained constant while introducing a variety of unique allies over the course of the series and this continues to amaze and excite the imagination. I am confident that Collins will one day rank with the likes of Rick Riordan or even Tolkien! Don’t miss this great story from a skilled and talented writer.
