The Shadow of Woodmyst is the sixth book in The Woodmyst Chronicles by Robert E Kreig, an epic fantasy with phenomenal characters. Alice Warde has more power than she knows, and she is just learning to use it, a young girl who is about to shoulder the destiny of the Agrodien. For the safety and peace of her people, she must reconcile with an old enemy, but little does she know that while seeking to build a peace treaty with this old enemy, a more deadly enemy rises from within her very people. Does she have the wisdom and the strength to fight an enemy who is as cunning as they are close?

The first thing that grabbed my attention when I opened this book was the powerful prose and the author’s ability to create strong images in the minds of readers. The opening lines are captivating and they introduces some elements of the setting: “Embers rose into the cold night air, lifted high upon the heat emitting from the large fire in the middle of the tiny settlement. A thin dusting of snow covered the thatched rooftops and ground, frosting the tall pine trees lightly as a chill breeze from the north drifted listlessly over the mountains.”

Apart from the awesome descriptions, the author has the gift of creating dialogues that read like natural conversations, displaying an impeccable world building style that is unique, and allowing the conflict to grow through the masterful use of dialogue. The characters are well-developed, fleshed out, and written with solid backstories. The Shadow of Woodmyst will transport readers into an interesting world and allow them to follow the engaging characters through the intense action that punctuates the pages of this story. Robert E Kreig is a master storyteller.

The city of Woodmyst is home to a growing power that threatens all the inhabitants of the surrounding lands in the sixth volume of The Woodmyst Chronicles. The Shadow of Woodmyst by Robert E. Kreig continues the story of Alice Warde as her inborn powers, as well as her understanding of the course she must take, grow stronger. Returning home after establishing a peace between her people and an old enemy, Alice finds that the power that has been growing out of the Seven, the witches of Woodmyst, is about to take on a new dimension that will change the balance of good and evil and bring devastation to the countryside. Only with the cooperation of other powerful women, whom Alice doesn’t yet know, will there be any hope of survival.

Robert E. Krieg has created a believable and multi-faceted world that invites you to join the characters as they struggle for their existence. The Shadow of Woodmyst is book six in the series so there is a lot of background to the story, although you can enjoy it without having read the previous books. Alice is a strong young woman, but one who also has doubts and difficulties. Her ability to turn to others for support is an important tool for her and one which helps her be successful. The action sequences are riveting and are based on the spread of evil that Alice and other good people must confront. Well-developed characters and a strong grasp of peoples’ strengths and weaknesses make Robert E. Kreig’s writing flow so that The Shadow of Woodmyst holds your interest and attention from the first page to the last.

Alice Gyfford, Kayl'sro of the Agrodien, and a daughter of Woodmyst, was young, someone a person would hardly believe was capable of the feats she had already accomplished. She had more blood on her hands than even the most seasoned warriors. She had protected her homeland, regardless of the cost. Now she turns her focus to rectifying the wrongs of those who were in the position of power before her. It started as a simple gesture to open conversation, the return of previously stolen property, but she could not imagine where it would lead. The new loyal ally that had chosen her as its keeper was beyond belief, but she will need all the help she can get. There is a prophecy that speaks of the rise of a magi, a warlock, and the time has come for all to learn their place. Join the adventure in Robert E Kreig's The Shadow Of Woodmyst: The Woodmyst Chronicles Book VI.

Robert E Kreig has woven yet another captivating tale in the Woodmyst Chronicles. There is danger, strife, challenges, rising threat, new allies, and ancient enemies, not to mention a fantastic cast of well developed characters who enhance the plot alongside the protagonist, Alice. Alice is a remarkable character because, although young, she is both strong and experienced with the will and passion to do what is right, while also looking after those she protects. I first met her in the previous book, and she continues to grow and surprise me in this one. From the last book to this one, the characters aren't the only thing to develop and progress. Robert E Kreig as an author continues to hone his already impressive craft in The Shadow Of Woodmyst. Vivid descriptions conjure magnificent scenes that come to life before your eyes and weave their own spell of magic over you as a reader. This book won't fail to keep you entertained for hours.
