The Shadow of Woodmyst is the sixth book in The Woodmyst Chronicles by Robert E Kreig, an epic fantasy with phenomenal characters. Alice Warde has more power than she knows, and she is just learning to use it, a young girl who is about to shoulder the destiny of the Agrodien. For the safety and peace of her people, she must reconcile with an old enemy, but little does she know that while seeking to build a peace treaty with this old enemy, a more deadly enemy rises from within her very people. Does she have the wisdom and the strength to fight an enemy who is as cunning as they are close?
The first thing that grabbed my attention when I opened this book was the powerful prose and the author’s ability to create strong images in the minds of readers. The opening lines are captivating and they introduces some elements of the setting: “Embers rose into the cold night air, lifted high upon the heat emitting from the large fire in the middle of the tiny settlement. A thin dusting of snow covered the thatched rooftops and ground, frosting the tall pine trees lightly as a chill breeze from the north drifted listlessly over the mountains.”
Apart from the awesome descriptions, the author has the gift of creating dialogues that read like natural conversations, displaying an impeccable world building style that is unique, and allowing the conflict to grow through the masterful use of dialogue. The characters are well-developed, fleshed out, and written with solid backstories. The Shadow of Woodmyst will transport readers into an interesting world and allow them to follow the engaging characters through the intense action that punctuates the pages of this story. Robert E Kreig is a master storyteller.
