The Shattered Horn by A.H. Benjamin follows an alien named Keidon and his robotic dog, Sirius, as they crash land in an enchanted world occupied by talking animals. They soon find themselves fighting to free a kingdom under the iron-fisted rule of King Zomak and to rescue the kidnapped heir, Adella. Things take a different turn when Zomak hires a giant to tear the alliance apart from within. As an ancient prophecy about a broken horn hangs over the land, Keidon faces a major decision about whether his advanced, futuristic technology can fix a broken magical world. Will Zomak's reign of terror be brought to an end? Most importantly, will Keidon be able to help restore harmony to the realm?

A.H. Benjamin’s The Shattered Horn is a captivating genre mashup that unfolds at a great pace. It blends sci-fi, fantasy, adventure, and action nicely, pulling you into a journey among the stars and then into an alluring magical world. The prose is very engaging, especially during the fight scenes and castle infiltrations. The best part of the book is the chemistry between the logic-driven Sirius and the ever-impulsive Keidon. Together, they keep the plot very exciting. The story explores themes of friendship and nobility with real sincerity. I also loved the side characters as they bring a certain creative flair to the book. For instance, a courageous dwarf and a mouse add a ton of warmth to the intense conflict as the story unfolds. This is a great children’s story for anyone looking for a fast-moving adventure that doesn’t take itself too seriously, while still exploring the overlap between technology and lore. Highly recommended.

The Shattered Horn is a children's fantasy adventure by AH Benjamin. Keidon is an extraterrestrial being who explores other worlds with his advanced talking robot dog, Sirius. The duo soon find themselves on Earth, landing in a magical forest called Shamwood, where all the animals are intelligent beings who can speak. But war threatens the very livelihood of these beings as the tyrannical King Zomak wants to conquer every inch of the land and its inhabitants. The old wizard Gladwin is the only one who can protect the animals. However, when his adopted daughter Adella is in danger, Gladwin and the animals team up with Keidon and Sirius. Meanwhile, the evil sorceress Morguel is working for Zomak. With a secret of the past revealed, can Keidon and his newfound friends help each other?

This book is full of charm, humor, and drama. Author AH Benjamin has placed so many twists and turns throughout The Shattered Horn. It ensures young readers are captivated all the way through. You immediately notice it's a fast-paced story with likable and eccentric characters who are easy to root for. Friendship is one of the key themes. I loved the interactions Gladwin had with the animals of the forest. Keidon's friendship with Sirius was also very adorable to read. I found Keidon's and Sirius's personalities very distinct. Their conversations were always a joy to read. This is a book that any fantasy fan, especially tweens and young teenagers, will enjoy. I highly recommend it.

The Shattered Horn by A.H. Benjamin is a magical fable for children aged eight years and older. Fascinated by a blue planet, two alien astronauts – elf-like Keidon and his dog-looking robot Sirius – land their spacecraft. It turns out that the blue planet is Earth. They find themselves in the magical Shamwood Forest, where old wizard Gladwin protects the animals that can talk. After a brief standoff with the Shamwood residents, Keidon and Sirius befriend them and discover that Shamwood is at war with Zomak, an evil king of the nearby castle. Zomak’s soldiers keep attacking Shamwood. Things come to a head when Zomak hires a powerful, evil sorceress, Morguel. But why is Zomak attacking Shamwood? And can Keidon and Sirius bring peace?

What a lovely, entertaining, educational, humorous, and enchanting tale! Reading The Shattered Horn made me feel like a child again. I liked how A.H. Benjamin blended myths, magic, and lightweight science fiction, making this tale appeal to young readers. The story’s moral and educational value are beyond praise - it offers memorable scenes teaching kindness and courage, love for nature and animals, teamwork, ingenuity, social inclusivity, protection of the weak, and response to bullying. The contrast of these virtues with the evil, scheming, greedy, and dishonest villains amplifies the educational power. And the pervasive humor perfects every scene. If you are a parent, a teacher, or a child carer, this is a highly recommended read that can be enjoyed by adults and children alike.
