The Shoulder Season is a moving memoir by Ann Campanella. The author, a former horse trainer, has her life drastically capsized after accidentally shattering her shoulder bone. This excruciatingly painful injury fills her life with severe discomfort, numerous surgeries, and endless physical therapy sessions. Her doctor informs her that the injury requires at least two years to heal, during which she is challenged to rebuild (and even reshape) her life. Further complicating her circumstances is the looming presence of the COVID-19 pandemic, coping with grief, and other stressful life transitions. Even though there are a few occasions when she gives in to her anguish, Campanella ultimately rises to the challenge, holds firm to the hope of making a full recovery, and embraces life's great and small blessings. This memoir commemorates her triumphant journey to recovery.
