The Spaceman is a short story and poetry collection by W.B. Edwards. The book opens with The Roadside Diner where an old couple's tryst with altruism goes wrong when they let two teenagers inside their diner on a cold gray morning. A man crashes his brand-new airplane in the middle of the desert and begins an arduous journey back home, hoping to gloat over his unfaithful wife, only for things to turn upside down in Victor's Victory. Jesus Ramirez follows a man sentenced to the electric chair, reminiscing about his life, moments before his execution. A young woman's attempts to flirt with a handsome stranger finally bear fruit when she learns to listen to the quiet in Once Upon A Grassy Knoll. The Spaceman follows a man who finds himself time-traveling to the future to an unexpected outcome.

Apart from the captivating stories themselves, The Spaceman also has some brilliantly penned poems to appeal to poetry aficionados. W.B. Edwards has crafted an absorbing anthology with stories that will break your heart, leave you in shock, and make you laugh at the most inopportune of situations. The unexpected absurdities of life are on full display in Edwards' short stories and poems. The characters are everyday people who are thrust into extraordinary situations, often without their consent. Each poem feels distinct and brings something of its own to the narrative. Overall, I found it to be an engrossing work that I will recommend to anyone who loves poetry and short stories.
