Author Biography

Joan M Kop grew up in the Pacific Northwest. After attending school to become a legal secretary, I was recruited by the CIA. I worked for them for 5 years and later graduated from Gonzaga University. Two things influenced my plot. A sister-in-law, at age 30, found out through a DNA test that she had been adopted. I did research on DNA tests by going through the process myself. So did my friend Dave who is a character in the book. The other thing that influenced my plot was that two cousins had adopted a Chinese baby who had been abandoned at birth. So, I decided to combine these two things in the espionage thriller I wrote called The Spy from Beijing.

The Spy from Beijing is a work of fiction in the thriller, espionage, and adventure subgenres. It is best suited to mature adult readers owing to some sexual scenes and violence. Penned by author Joan M. Kop, this is a gripping espionage thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The story follows FBI agent Jenny, who stumbles upon a complex web of espionage, deceit, and betrayal. As she teams up with CIA officer Fred, they uncover the true identity of Yìchén, a Beijing defector who is not what he seems. Yìchén's mission to steal DNA from a U.S. biotech firm for China's sinister purposes sets the stage for a high-stakes battle between intelligence agencies and a race against time.

Author Joan M. Kop has a knack for storytelling that is fast-paced and filled with suspense. The plot is intricately woven, with unexpected twists and turns that keep you guessing, but it always felt grounded in the reality of the people who are reacting to these incredible situations. The characters, especially Jenny and Yìchén, are well-developed and relatable, adding depth to the investment we feel in their journey and survival against the odds. One of the most compelling aspects of the book is the moral dilemma it presents: the conflict between family and patriotism. Overall, The Spy from Beijing is a thrilling rollercoaster ride of espionage, intrigue, and moral quandaries, and a must-read for anyone who enjoys a suspenseful tale that explores the blurred lines between loyalty and love.
