The Story of You by Daniel Maunz centers around Will Banfield and his son, Quince. After the heartbreaking loss of Quince's mother during childbirth, both father and son must navigate life's difficulties. Will, who is a reserved and emotionally distant lawyer, experiences a change with the birth of his son, Quince. Struggling with the grief of his wife's passing, Will knows that she would have wished him to be a caring and loving parent to Quince. As Quince grows up, he starts to have visions of both past and future events. Quince struggles with speech delays and shyness, likely because of the emotional weight of these visions. This situation leads Will to question his parenting skills and his responsibility to protect his son. Will works tirelessly to help Quince find his voice and overcome these challenges, eventually leading to significant progress in his language and confidence.

Daniel Maunz's The Story of You captivated me from the beginning to the end. The story is told from Will’s perspective. It was at an easy pace, which allowed me to immerse myself in the plot. The writing style was engaging and very emotional. I could only imagine how powerless Will felt as he could not protect Quince from pain. Themes of loss, grief, pain, love, and hope were brilliantly woven through the story and handled with great care. The characters were authentic and relatable. Quince’s ability helped him develop a strong sense of empathy and courage. It also deepened the bond between him and his father. The plot was excellently planned and masterfully written. The result is one of those books that you sit for a while after you finish reading and think about everything that happened.
