The Suit by Colin Conway pulls readers into an unforeseen wave of vigilante violence referred to as 'the knockout game.' This heinous 'game' involves delivering an intense one-punch assault on unsuspecting strangers. Sadly, there is a shocking twist to these attacks—the intended targets are solely well-dressed men. This wave of terror grips the downtown area of Eastern Washington, leaving local law enforcement struggling to devise an efficient response. As fear permeates the streets, one gentleman in a tailored suit—our mysterious hero—decides to fight back. As the ruthless attacks continue to intensify, our hero steps into the battle, resolved to defend his moral code. Unlike a traditional whodunit, the criminals are revealed from the very start. But what is unknown is whether the police (led by Officers Burkett, Delaney, and Patrol Officer Navarro) can solve this harrowing mystery in time.
The Suit by Colin Conway is a fast-paced police drama with a fascinating cast (including a morally grey protagonist) and a surprising twist on vigilante justice in a small town. This novel delivers a compelling and absorbing installment in the 509 Crime Stories series. It is not just about the big reveal—it is about how the entire truth finally comes to light. The author creates a unique contrast, with readers aware of the culprits and their agendas, while Burkett and Delaney initially remain oblivious to these crucial details. The suspense increases as the storylines involving the police investigation, Navarro’s inquiry, and the protagonist begin to intersect. Even so, the protagonist is the most intriguing character of them all. He arises as a type of vigilante hero, shielded by his mysterious identity, while his motives gradually reveal themselves throughout the narrative. He fills the story with moral uncertainty and edge-of-your-seat tension that readers will enjoy. If you love police procedurals imbued with suspense and a main character with a score to settle, this is a well-crafted tale that is hard to put down.
