5-Star Time Travel and History

Award-winning author Kevin D. Miller’s third installment of his fascinating Timepiece Series is “The Tempus Glass.” It grabbed me with the first chapter and never let go. I read it in close to one sitting. The first chapter has a strange kind of beauty despite the backdrop of the American Civil War near Gettysburg. It’s the lyrical writing that gave the horrible situation some beauty. I was keenly interested and appreciative of the historical Civil War references, as I love historical fiction.
Elena, the main character, is well-developed, clearly described, and compelling. When she loses her sons in battle you feel her feelings of deep despair. Despite this unspeakable loss and others that follow, she remains strong, clever and determined. She is neither a wholly good nor wholly bad person which makes her all the more interesting. I rooted for her throughout the book.
All the main characters are well developed and described according to their role in the book. Hector is a proper villain and Bodhi is a lovely man. Grams is kind in her brief interaction with Elena and you know she has lived a hell of a life.

The plot is complex and engaging and full of twists. As a time travel work I never knew what to expect as the plot unfolds and that was engaging. I found the twists exciting and yet credible (given the genre).

The book is extremely well written, fast-paced, and well balanced between narration, description, dialogue, and action sequences. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would give it five stars plus if possible.
