You don’t expect to find love between rattlesnakes, river crossings, and wagon wheels, but sometimes, it finds you. The Trail to Love by Tina Susedik is a love story that unfolds along the dusty roads of history during a grueling journey along the Oregon Trail in the 1850s. It follows two people, each burdened by their past, as they search for new beginnings in the rugged American West. Jack Billabard has led wagon trains before, but after losing everything he cared about, he’s just going through the motions. Sarah Nickelson, a widowed mother with a little boy and a lot of grit, joins the journey to Oregon with plans to become a mail-order bride. But as the miles stretch on, their paths continue to cross, and as they face hardships, dangers, and the demands of survival together, they begin to see that love has a way of finding those brave enough to hope again.

It may sound funny, but the minute I saw this book was about traveling the Oregon Trail, it evoked memories of playing “Oregon Trail” during elementary school. I was always fascinated by it, and since this book is also a romance, I knew I had to read it. The Trail to Love by Tina Susedik didn’t disappoint at all. Jack was honorable, and Sarah’s love for her son felt genuine and relatable. I also loved the fiery spark in her personality. Tommy was a lovable kid who deserved the kind of father his biological one never was. Their love grew slowly, even though both were in denial until it was almost too late. Even a tree knew (you’ll understand when you read it). This story delivers both heart and history, making it an excellent pick for anyone who enjoys a slow-burning romance with realistic challenges. Jack and Sarah’s journey gave me more feels than any pixelated river crossing ever could (like in the game).
