The Valiant Quests of the Knights of Musical Acres - Quest 1: Sir Dorian's Dilemma is a work of children’s fiction in the educational, inspirational, and music-centered subgenres, and was penned by author Dawn Marie Schafer with illustrations from artist Jonathan Aseron. The work is intended for school-aged children and features, in this first book of the series, a young knight who finds that the land of Musical Acres has fallen silent. In his mission to bring music back, young readers are encouraged to join Sir Dorian by breaking out their own instruments, learning about different kinds of sounds, and making music to help in the noble quest.
Author Dawn Marie Schafer has crafted a glorious work of musical storytelling with plenty of inspiration and education to offer young readers. I think the work is a wonderful idea in itself; to use the story as the springboard and allow young readers to complete it themselves. The brilliant and uplifting wording of the text can provide an inspiring basis for this at home or in classroom settings. The illustrations by artist Jonathan Aseron were also a delightful addition and will be sure to engage even reluctant readers and allow them to receive that same level of inspiration via the colorful bursts of music, instruments, and characters throughout the work. Overall, I would highly recommend The Valiant Quests of the Knights of Musical Acres - Quest 1: Sir Dorian's Dilemma to fans of bright and engaging picture books, happy stories which are pro-creativity, and for any educators, guardians, and facilitators hoping to inspire music in the next generation from a young age.
