Born in an overachieving Elite witch family, Willow Gladstone's powers, for reasons unknown, have yet to manifest fully, leaving her magic broken. Rather than risking staying and seeing incarceration at Haven, Willow agrees to seek help from the Witch Whisperer, Never Ravenwood, who lives a solitary life in Townbridge House. A man with a dark past, Nev has a reputation for helping witches in need. As Willow and Nev spend time together, they develop mutual feelings that neither can deny. Finally, Nev realizes that the solution to Willow's problem lies in the world of Tae-wen. But will he be able to confront his old friend-turned-nemesis Blaise, who has joined the ruthless Malgren? Meanwhile, Blaise has his own plans to use the portal for nefarious ends.
The Witch Whisperer is a book for fantasy and romance lovers alike. Barb DeLong has built a believable fantastical world for readers to get lost in, featuring witches, fae, and other magical races, lacing them with definitive characteristics that distinguish them from one another. Willow and Nev's relationship is the story's central focus, and their dynamic acts as the anchor around which the plot revolves. All of their scenes are tinged with tension, humor, and heart. I also found Blaise to be a great anti-hero, as his character acted as the foil to Nev. This book is for you if you love romance stories set in a fantastical world.
