"The Worry Glasses: overcoming anxiety," written by Donalisa Helsley and illustrated by Kalpart, is an excellent way to discuss worries and anxiety and how children can cope with this. MJ worries a lot and her worries interfere with her everyday life. There are also special things that take place in her life and she misses out on many enjoyable things because of her worries. MJ goes to see a counselor and learns various coping skills to help alleviate her anxiety. So she is not worrying all the time now and she is able to enjoy her life.

This is an excellent book to share with children who may be struggling with anxiety. It is very child-friendly as it is filled with "everyday" language, and terms are explained well for children to understand. For example, the terms coping skills, worry and anxiety are well defined and explained. For anyone it can be scary and worrisome to meet someone new and have to talk with them. Then for a child already struggling with anxiety, having to go and see a counselor can be terrifying. This book would really help alleviate a child's fear before he or she goes to see a counselor as it shares in detail about MJ's experience with her counselor. I have a certified school counselor and I currently work as a social worker for at-risk children and this is one of the best books I have seen to address these issues for children. I cannot wait to read more books by this author!
