If you are a fun-loving person, this book is for you. Michael Verrett has a varied background that suits the excellent illustrations of There’s a Crab in My Gumbo. His grammar is exemplary except when, for reality’s sake, he uses Cajun phrases that are not standard English by any means. So, take a trip to the Cajun bayou and enjoy a nice bowl of gumbo. Valentin Michel Lafleur visits his grandparents, where his nearly blind grandmother has just finished fixin’ a pot of gumbo. The only problem with Valentin’s bowl of gumbo is that a live crab is in it. So, join Valentin in this humorous children’s book. However, if this book does not leave you laughing, you need to check your tickle box.
Michael Verrett has been a police sketch artist and a teacher. In addition, he has taken courses in art and writing. Michael learned his lessons well and now shares his ability with us in There’s a Crab in My Gumbo. This delightful children’s story introduces children to the beautiful world of the Cajun bayou. In the bayou, one will hear a distinct dialect that sometimes is part French while also part English. However, the Cajun sayings are fun to read, and most can easily be understood. Buy this book and introduce your child to a new culture. This book is an excellent introduction for your child to learn that some people are different. Use this book to teach diversity and acceptance for those that are different.
