Thief's Theme (A Love Story) by M.A.N. is a science fiction fantasy romance novel that would appeal most to a mixed audience of young adults and adults who enjoy stories involving fast-paced thievery. Ji (short for Ohiji Olezuo) is a renowned thief whom the police call Merc, short for Mercury, after the Roman god of speed who was said to be able to steal anything at the drop of a hat. Ji has set out on a quest to prove that he is the greatest thief in the universe. Sharia Iwuhaki is the only person who could stop him due to Ji promising to never steal from her without her permission. As Ji’s thefts get more and more outlandish, will he ever stop or will his thievery cause him to lose the one person he truly cares about?
Thief's Theme (A Love Story) by M.A.N. was an interesting book to read in that it did not truly fit into any one genre. While Ji was most certainly the main character, I personally found Sharia Iwuhaki to be my favorite character; I liked her personality and the way she developed into a someone who was capable of catching Ji while still caring about him. I enjoyed the way the author concealed some of the facts about Ji’s various thefts, as it added an air of mystery to both him and his abilities. Overall, I have to say that the ending was not something I saw coming, but it allowed the book to end on a good note with there being room for a potential sequel.
