H. Dawn Hunter offers readers captivating dystopian fiction in Thirteen Hands. Frank Clemens lives on the streets of Blackburn. Because he is witchborn, he was sent to the Institution and Marked by order of the president. The girls who are witchborn are killed. Frank has been cut off from his deity, Striga. Now, he just survives. When Teivel Gurney hires Frank for a job, he agrees—after all, he has nothing left to live for. His task is to watch over the Feral girl and keep her safe. Tensions and distrust run high among the three, and they all know the girl could easily kill both of them if she chooses. Something has to change in Magisson, and these three might just be the key.

Author H. Dawn Hunter has created a world on the brink of disaster that needs a hero. Told in the third person from multiple perspectives, this story gains depth and complexity. From the very beginning, you'll be pulled into the narrative and experience a wide range of emotions. Characters are shown with strengths and flaws, making them more relatable. This book is filled with beautiful lines that will inspire anyone to stand up and act. I loved the dedication at the beginning, which perfectly encapsulates the theme. This story includes action, violence, and some strong language, so it’s not suitable for younger readers. Sexual assault is also implied, and there are references to cannibalism. Thirteen Hands stands out from many other dystopian novels and holds its own every time.
