Tigra by RJ Leahy is a sweeping science fiction epic. Jeena Garza, a battle-hardened soldier, escapes a brutal POW camp only to crash-land on Ararat, a long-forgotten and primitive planet. Seeking solitude from the galaxy's endless wars, Jeena finds herself unwillingly drawn into a prophecy when she kills a predator and adopts its orphaned cub: a creature known as a tigra. But this cub, Samson, is no ordinary animal. As he grows, he reveals a deeper mystery that binds him to Ararat’s forgotten past and its future. Jeena is propelled into a leadership role she never wanted, driving her into an escalating conflict that threatens not only the survival of Ararat but the balance of the galaxy itself. With political undertones and high-stakes action, Tigra combines personal redemption with grand-scale prophecy in a uniquely emotional and fast-paced narrative.
Author RJ Leahy's meticulous detail has resulted in a gripping tale of survival and destiny. There’s plenty of gritty realism in the attitudes of the characters and the difficult, sometimes brutal, lives that they lead, and this creates a palpable sense of danger right from the start that has readers worried about Jeena’s odds of survival. The cosmic mythos falls naturally into the story world and is revealed at a great pace to create a lot of mystery. This powerful fusion of science fiction and character-driven storytelling makes Jeena truly unforgettable. Her bond with Samson is a uniquely developed plot device that redefines the animal companion trope, delivering both heart and high-stakes heroism from a new, more ethically conscious perspective that sets the book apart in the sci-fi genre. Overall, with its cinematic space epic feeling and raw emotional core, I would not hesitate to recommend Tigra to fans of accomplished and immersive sci-fi tales.
