To Unite a Realm by Mary Beesley is about a young woman named Vera Wilson. She's the daughter of the Chamberlain of Campbell. She and her family hate the Grays of Alta Glenn, especially Angus, the son of Chief Bear Gray. Her hatred only intensifies as they kill one of her friends right in front of her. What could possibly be worse? When her family is faced with the decision to live or die, Vera chooses what she hates most to save her family from certain death. Marrying Angus Gray was the last thing she ever thought would happen in her life. With her hatred strong and intact, she sets off on an adventure to her new awful home with her new horrible husband. But as time passes, Vera uncovers a carefully crafted web of lies spun by none other than her own family. Her precious family, who she has sacrificed everything for, are rising from the flames of deception.
Mary Beesley's To Unite a Realm had me hooked! I could feel the love/hate relationship between Vera and Angus. It's been two weeks, and I'm still thinking of the storyline. It has even changed my perception of my own husband. When I'm feeling especially grumpy or slightly angry, this book always comes to mind now. To Unite a Realm has completely changed my outlook on life and the situations I am faced with. While I couldn't figure out the period the story was set in, I could still clearly picture the cities, scenery, characters, and outfits in my mind. I could smell the scents and feel the emotions of the characters. At one point in the book, I was crying my eyes out, completely heartbroken. In another, I was dancing and laughing along with it. To Unite a Realm by Mary Beesley now holds a very special place in my heart and mind. I loved going on this adventure with Angus and Vera and sincerely hope there is another with them in the future.
