Megan Speece’s Tranquil Heights is a thrilling story about a tragic past that has affected Katie’s family for generations. Ever since they were children, Katie and Liz’s mother and grandmother have repeatedly told them about a curse in their family. Every firstborn daughter would die on their twenty-fifth birthday. Sadly, Katie and her twin sister, Liz, simply dismissed it as a cautionary fairytale and thought it was just a lie to trick them into behaving when they were children. Years pass and Katie and Liz celebrate their twenty-fifth birthday with their friends and family, but they don’t expect the tragedy that befalls them later that same day. The heartbreaking accident that day took her twin sister’s life and made her start to believe in the ‘curse’ her mother and grandmother warned her about when she was younger. She couldn’t help but feel devastated, even more so now that she was pregnant. What if it is a baby girl? Katie will do anything to lift the curse, but where will she start? Join Katie as she embarks on a dangerous journey to free her family from the curse that has drowned them in grief for generations.
Tranquil Heights by Megan Speece is a suspenseful and exciting story. People who love the thrill that horror stories bring will surely be addicted to Tranquil Heights. I had goosebumps the whole time I was reading this story! It was so exciting every time Katie discovered something new. Despite her limited knowledge on the subject, she was not afraid to take action for her family and unborn child. I also worried for her throughout the book. What if it was all hopeless from the start? One wrong move could endanger her and her child instead! The story’s pacing really had me constantly on the edge of my seat. The unpredictable plot had me giddy with excitement with every page I turned, and I was eager to find out the reason for the curse and what could be done to stop it. Katie showed such commendable bravery, and her firm resolve to face the difficulties in life head-on made me admire her even more. The story is truly an enjoyable read, and the eerie feeling I got while reading made it even more exciting! I am certainly craving more thrilling and spine-tingling stories like Tranquil Heights! Well done!
