Trapped: The Trapped Series by Reese features a team of four women who become more than just classmates. On the first day of class, Dr. Martin presented them with a group assignment on how to work with differing personalities. Arnya, Naomi, Stephanie, and Jasmine were assigned to work together. After exchanging phone numbers, they agreed to meet later to set up a project schedule. The story follows the women through their college years until they graduated. The women came from a diverse array of backgrounds. Arnya had a large family and Stephanie grew up with a strict grandmother after her mother abandoned her. Naomi came from a high-society home, and Jasmine was a product of the foster care system. Despite their different circumstances, they treated each other as sisters. This is the story of four women who would support each other beyond school.

The alternating viewpoints and timelines presented by Reese made every interaction meaningful. I found the intense determination of each of the women to be inspiring. They knew what they wanted and supported each other to achieve their goals. The author, Reese, detailed the individual strengths of those in the group when they made tough decisions. The story featured unpredictable yet realistic events that occur in normal life. The emotions and dialogue were clear and projected the inner turmoil that each woman experienced. There was joy, heartbreak, love, success, and failure, which I could relate to on a personal level. The ending is perfect for the development of a sequel. It was fascinating to watch how each character progressed as the years passed. A class project bringing together a sisterhood shows that meeting new people can enrich lives. I recommend Trapped to readers who enjoy character-driven stories.
