Tree House in a Storm is written by Rachelle Burk and illustrated by Rex Schneider. This book offers an exciting adventure, sibling bonding, and an understanding of the power of nature, with an interesting story line for younger and older readers to enjoy and share together. Kenny loves to climb trees, and has been climbing them since he was very young. When Kenny decides he is going to build a tree house, his sister Allison sets out to help him. They sit up in the tree house for hours at a time, sharing stories, eating food, and enjoying the view. Never could they have imagined what nature would do to turn their little paradise in the sky upside-down.
Rachelle Burk did a fantastic job writing about an activity that many children of the past and present love doing. Building and then enjoying a tree house by playing in it shows the creativity and imagination a child's mind holds; the possibilities are endless. Based on a true story of the author's brothers, it's a book many children and adults can read and relate to a similar happenstance with nature, or just remember the loss of a childhood favorite item. The story reminds you that although something in your childhood was lost, you can always re-create it and a memory of it with your children or children in your life as an adult. This fun and exciting story can inspire future creative activities of the past or the present. Enjoy.
