Twins In The City is an educational children's picture book that focuses on the responsibilities of police officers and their importance and relationship with their local community. Written by Adrian Goodwin and Christopher Goodwin, the story follows two twin sisters, Madison and Mia, as they roam the city with their parents. After seeing a police officer on a horse, Madison wonders how police officers keep everyone safe in the city. Mia answers that apart from helping people during emergencies, the police help in crowd control and direct traffic. Their parents point out that just like our communities, the police represent different cultures worldwide. Some of them speak Spanish, some of them wear turbans while others wear hijabs, and yet others handle K-9 dogs.
In recent years, there has been a disconnect between law enforcement agencies and the general public. Books like Twins In The City go a long way in helping children understand not only the responsibilities and the work done by the police but also help bridge the gap between them and the community they serve. Adrian and Christopher Goodwin tell a much-needed story for our times. With some colorful illustrations by artist Bria M. DuBose, the characters feel vibrant and shine through the pages. Kids will find it easy to relate to Mia and Madison, as their queries resemble what children are usually curious about when they think of police officers. All in all, a relevant picture book that I highly recommend.
