Twins Mac & Madi's Big Sister is a children's picture book in a series by Linda Herron. Molly's twin sisters, Mac and Madi, seem to get everyone's admiration while Molly fades into the background. She notices their unique bond and the way strangers are drawn to them. Even though she loves her sisters, Molly is discouraged and wishes people would see her special qualities, too. After she takes her sisters to the park, Molly's conflicting emotions cause her to run to her room. Her family arrives at her bedroom door with a plate of cookies and encouraging words. They list things Molly doesn't have to share, and the twins explain the downside of their popularity.
Linda Herron relates the challenges of living with siblings who seem to get all the attention in an authentic voice. The author writes the feelings of the characters as someone who has experienced them firsthand. Whether you have a popular family member or a friend who always seems to get attention, almost everyone has felt invisible at some point. The story shares a good lesson, pointing out the advantages focused on Molly without diminishing the importance of anyone in the family. Herron wrote the book to honor her older sister, who happily allowed her twin siblings to take the spotlight. Marie Delon creates colorful pictures, complementing the lines and lovely meter in the book. Caregivers or educators should consider sharing Twins Mac & Madi's Big Sister with children who feel disheartened when a friend or family member consistently receives excessive praise or admiration.
