Two Hearts: Unlikely Heroes is a work of fiction in the romantic suspense sub-genre, and was penned by author Tamara Ferguson. The ninth book in the continuing series of Two Hearts Wounded Warrior Romances, the work is recommended for mature readers due to the depiction of sexual scenes, though they are not overly explicit. The pair of protagonists at the heart of the action and romance within this novel is Captain Samantha Caldwell and Captain Benjamin Nash, both of whom have served time in Iraq. After a chance meeting some years ago, the past reunited them, but also brings a terrible danger for Sam that Ben has been tasked to protect her from. So begins a tense and tentative romance on the edge of danger.

Author Tamara Ferguson knows her audience well, and she is able to amp up the suspense to keep them on the edge of their seats whilst reading this highly passionate and engaged romance novel. The wounded warrior theme gives a unique perspective to the character development, as both figures are hardened heroes who understand real consequences beyond their passions. What results is an emotionally down to earth and tuned in drama, with plenty of real plot interwoven between the tense romantic scenes. I also really enjoyed the dialogue between the central pair, which served to present a lot of emotion and withheld feelings to ramp that suspense up even more. Overall, I would certainly recommend Two Hearts: Unlikely Heroes to fans of the existing series and new readers seeking intense and believable romantic drama.

In Two Hearts Unlikely Heroes (Two Hearts Wounded Warrior Romance Book Nine), author Tamara Ferguson shows us again the strength of character and heart of our nation’s wounded warriors amidst the beautiful backdrop of Crystal Rock and Butterfly Pointe, places which will be familiar to fans of Ferguson ‘s warrior romance books. Samantha Caldwell is two years removed from an attack on her convoy in Iraq, an attack that left her wounded and a wanted target by the perpetrators. If not for Captain Ben Nash rescuing her, Samantha wouldn’t be in Crystal Rock training other wounded warriors to return to active duty. While she has physically recovered from her injuries, the emotional scars remain for Samantha who is all business and rarely smiles as she goes about her duties. Captain Ben Nash is quickly on the case—undercover—to get the woman he could never seem to forget back in his life. He makes it a mission to make her smile again and, in the process, save his own. Will he succeed?

I enjoy Tamara Ferguson’s novels and this is the second of her books I’ve had the privilege of reviewing. They are wonderful stories that subtly remind us of the sacrifice of our wounded warriors and that the battle continues once they return home. As with all of her books, Two Hearts Unlikely Heroes can be read as a standalone story, but it’s a delight to read after you’ve read others from the series as you get the opportunity to revisit some of your old “friends” and get an update on where life has taken them. My favorite part about this novel was that “special something” that both Samantha and Ben felt for each other from the very beginning and which drew them together before they knew each other’s name—or rank. While there is nothing surprising, necessarily, in the plot if you’ve read Ferguson’s other books, there is the sweet pull of romance unique to these two characters to enjoy, plus the fabulous and welcome role of unlikely heroes. This is a quick, delightful read.

When Captain Ben Nash is sent to a wounded warriors training facility in Wisconsin for a secret mission, he meets Captain Samantha Caldwell. At first glance, he knows he wants her. She seems familiar to Ben, so he asks around and realizes that she was the woman he saved in Iraq years ago at the same time he lost his arm. Two Hearts Unlikely Heroes by Tamara Ferguson follows Ben and Sam in their growing relationship at the training facility while fending off terrorists that seem to be attempting to take Sam's life as revenge for her past work in Iraq. This is a story of love, romance, and steamy passion, and watching Ben and Sam fall in love was beautiful.

As a fan of romance, I really enjoyed Two Hearts Unlikely Heroes. The blossoming love between Ben and Sam was enjoyable to watch play out, and the story had the perfect amount of lust and passion. This book was a quick read thanks to the gripping aspects of the novel that made it feel partly like a thriller alongside the romance. It was so easy to get hooked into this book from the very first page, and I was honestly sad to see it end. Although the final few chapters felt a bit rushed to me simply because there was not a ton of direct action between the bad guys and Sam, I was so happy to see the book finish in the way that it did with a promise of everlasting love. Tamara Ferguson is a fabulous author, and I am definitely interested in checking out more of her books. I would recommend Two Hearts Unlikely Heroes to anyone looking for a lovely romance novel that is easy to read in one sitting.
