Dana Wayne’s Unveiling Beulah features Beulah “Bea” Lockhart’s journey into acceptance. Bea was thirteen when she was in a tragic accident that left a scar on her face. From that day on, her parents tried to hide her from society. Bea chose to leave New York City and buy a general store in Bakersville, Texas. Bea discovers the majority of the Bakersville people are friendly and quickly makes friends with the hotel owner, Lizzy. Despite her lack of experience in dating, Bea enjoys the company of Lucien. He is smitten with Bea, and they develop a relationship. However, Lucien doesn’t look forward to a visit from his grandfather, Henry Moreau. Henry wants to take Lucien back to New York to take over his shipping business. Henry also insists on Lucien following through on an arranged marriage to Annabelle Blakenship.

Dana Wayne alternates between the perspectives of Bea and Lucien. This shows their distinct personalities. I liked how Lucien labeled Eunice as the “mole” because she was the town gossip. Bea’s refusal to hide her scar in Bakersville was her way of refusing to allow it to define her. How she remodels the general store proves how strong her business knowledge is. The plot filled with suspense when some of the supporting characters became reliant on Lucien and Bea to make difficult decisions. The unpredictable twists captured my attention. The exceptional attention to detail made it easy to envision every moment. As drama became unavoidable, I enjoyed the reactions of the townspeople. The ending wasn’t what I expected, but it reinforces the idea of never judging people by their appearances. Therefore, what is on the inside is what makes people attractive. Unveiling Beulah will appeal to anyone who enjoys a realistic romance between two people who dare to live their dreams.
