Venture Out by James Huber tells the intriguing story of astronauts Ben, pilot and navigator, and Cal, navigator and scientist. Ben and Cal had been controlling a spacecraft for over a year when something unusual showed up on their screen. The men decide to keep this information to themselves until they can get it to Prishia, the Artificial Intelligence lead member. Stephee, Computer and Airborne Communications, and Reg, Director of the Organization and longtime employee of the space command, notice an ‘incident’ on their solar relay. They take a ‘vacation’ for privacy to discuss what they have seen and what to do about it. The crew decides to return to space and find much more than they expected. It seemed too good to be true, and could be life-threatening. They have a difficult decision to make but time is not on their side.

Venture Out is an exciting and suspenseful story filled with surprises from space ships to planets and everything in between. The interesting array of characters from different walks of life are described well and easy to connect with. The various scenes and locations are vivid and clearly defined both on earth and in space. I particularly enjoyed how the characters work as a team to achieve their objectives against all odds, even if it means breaking the rules of the government. This story shows us that anything is possible and we should not be afraid of the unknown. Overall, an enjoyable read by James Huber and recommended to anyone who enjoys unusual science fiction.
