Waking Maya by Warren Goldie is a brilliant metaphysical visionary mystery. Maya Burke, a history graduate from Towson University, discovers a journal her father, Ben Ambrose, wrote for her before he left for good. Maya is elated and surprised by this discovery. She remembers little about her father. Ben Ambrose disappeared from her life when she was just a little girl. For many years, Maya has been searching for clues to help her find him, but in vain. And suddenly, this journal comes into her hands. The first pages of the journal predict an impending global change and contain instructions for her. Before long, Maya sets off on an adventure she could only dream of. But will Maya accomplish the mission her father set for her?
I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of reading Waking Maya. This novel has everything I look for in a mystery thriller—a fast-moving storyline, breathtaking adventures, and riveting suspense. Surprises awaited me in every episode and kept me turning the pages. I enjoyed watching Maya’s character evolve as the story unfolded. I appreciated how the narrative explored highly topical themes of mental health, alcohol addiction, and mother-daughter relationships. But most of all, I liked how Warren Goldie interlaced this enchanting mystery adventure with fascinating scientific facts and metaphysical musings. I marveled at the hundredth monkey theory, energy vortices, psychic manifestations, body consciousness theory, metaphysical healing, geology with attitude, probable futures, and metaphysical worlds. I highly recommend this riveting novel to mystery thriller fans open to visionary science fiction.
