Author team Patricia Jo Dustman and MaryEllen Tinsley have put the very best of their collective abilities together in perfect unison to craft an engaging and thrilling mystery. There’s a palpable tension to the work right from the start that has you fully immersed in drama and detail, exploring every nook and cranny with your eyes peeled for trouble. RJ and Claire's adventurous spirit, combined with their knack for landing in mischief wherever they go, made for a dynamic and entertaining duo that was gorgeously well characterized with vibrant dialogue and cinematic description. The discovery of the hidden journals added a fascinating historical layer to the mystery, revealing deep-seated conflicts and a gripping backstory that felt credibly rich and detailed. The unraveling of the murder mystery intertwined with contemporary and past events kept me guessing and fully engaged, and there was an excellent sense of pacing in knowing just when to drop a new clue in and refresh the pace. The authors' portrayal of the southwestern desert setting was suitably vivid and evocative as a backdrop to the action, enhancing the overall atmosphere and giving it that cozy, contained feel from cover to cover. Overall, Washed Up is a delightful blend of mystery, adventure, and friendship that left me eager for more, and I would certainly recommend it.
