When My Mom Was Younger by Terri Kelley is a cute little book in which a little girl takes a trip down Memory Lane with her mother. She gets ready to visit her mother's childhood home. She is excited because she is not only traveling for the first time, but also going to see her mother's home. The little girl wants to do everything her mother did so that she can experience her mom's childhood. She has already decided upon the things she wants to do while she is there.
The story is beautiful and it should be read out to children because any child would love to know about their parents' childhood home and activities. It is always difficult for kids to picture their mother or father as a kid and it can arouse a lot of curiosity in them. The illustrations are delightful and it gives a movement to the scenes narrated by the author. The tree house, hiking, and the lonely creek are all exciting to the little girl. The book encourages children to listen, observe, and remember things told to them and the things that they see. The girl's idea of putting down her thoughts can motivate many kids to do the same, making them observe their surroundings in a better way.
I am a great fan of Terri Kelley books. She writes stories that are apt for kids in all aspects - it has a concept, an educational angle, and at the same time it has a story that is appealing to kids.
