Emerson has spent her life doing the right thing. She’s been molded into a figure that fulfills the needs of everyone around her with absolutely no regard for what she wants or needs to be happy, or even satisfied with her life. Where Loyalty Lies starts with Emerson escaping her miserable, gilded cage, as this polished princess ends up at a broken-down cabin in Georgia in search of a chance to find out who she was meant to be. Elle Christopher’s storytelling skills are evident from the beginning. The sterile sophistication of Emerson’s old life jumped off the page, painting her misery in harsh, bold strokes. The transformation of her new life is such a stark contrast, but she works hard to fit in, and just like in her old life, she does so easily. But does she really fit in?
Where Loyalty Lies was such a good read, and instantly, I was on Emerson’s side! Emerson’s growth and her ability to find herself were the real love story here, but we can’t forget Sam. Steady and solid Sam. He didn’t ask her to be anybody but who she was, didn’t try to change her to fit his needs; he just accepted and loved her as she was, and that helped her learn to love herself. Elle Christopher weaved together two love stories in one, and that made this an even more engaging read. Her family and her husband were awful, but despite the beautiful trappings of her life, she was strong enough to search for what she wanted. Her love story isn’t easy, but it is so beautiful from beginning to end. I loved this story! Very engaging and dramatic without being angsty.
