Where the Hell is Myra Atkins? by Lu Erickson is a hilarious mystery. Myra Atkins, owner of a private detective agency, has disappeared. Esther Humperstone, her secretary, and Henry, the latest employee, are on the trail, and both are learning how to be private detectives. They don’t realize that Myra hasn’t gone missing – she’s gone to Maui for a week of fun and alcohol with Ray Garnetti. Myra worked on two cases before leaving – a missing jockey and a horse. When the owner of the horse is found dead, things worsen. In their hunt for the truth, Ether and Henry manage to solve the murder and learn that there’s a life to be lived with the right company, especially when you are prepared to step outside of your comfort zone.

Where the Hell is Myra Atkins? by Lu Erickson will have you in stitches as you follow the hapless characters searching for a missing boss. This is a hilarious story with some great characters. As Ms. Erickson describes the characters, you can picture them – the hapless Henry, the stalwart Esther, and the midlife crisis Myra. You’ve already met at least one person just like them, too, so you’ll find them easy to relate to. This story has plenty of go, much action, laughs, and a great plot with plenty of twists. The story alternates between these three main characters, and their stories join together seamlessly. This is a debut novel but in my opinion, it’s a fantastic read from a clearly talented writer. It’s fun, it’s fast, and I hope this is just the first in a series.
