While My Back Was Turned by R.M. Blackwell is a heart-stopping thriller. Despite the fact that everything in their lives may seem perfect to an outsider, Clayton and Helen have been drifting apart. Helen has been withdrawn and uninterested in Clayton, and for the past six months, Clayton has been having an affair with his personal assistant. Realizing that he is jeopardizing the family he loves, Clayton breaks off his extramarital relationship. Working to bring his family back together, Clayton takes them to the seafront for a day. Still in sight of his family, Clayton runs to the car to get his daughter, Lily, a coat and return a work related call. While he rummages for the coat, Helen and Lily vanish into thin air. Later, a piece of Lily's clothing is found in Clayton's closet, covered in blood. Someone is setting him up. Because Clayton is the prime suspect in Helen and Lily's disappearance, no one is looking for them. Clayton must hunt for them himself. What is the motive behind their disappearance? Did Helen leave him of her own free will as the police had initially claimed, or is there something sinister behind it?
While My Back Was Turned by R.M. Blackwell is an electrifying thriller that has a stunning storyline. The original story setting begins in England and crosses over into international borders. I thought Clayton's character was admirable. He didn't worry about whether or not he was going to die, or feel regret for the death of a murderer. He gave as good as he got. With all of its twists and turns, this is one of those books that you can't put down once you pick it up. The plot moves along at a fast pace, with a lot of action throughout. The drama that encompasses Clayton's family crescendos to an unexpected and astounding outcome, leaving the reader stunned. The storyline of this book contains mystery, murder, and mayhem, and is a top notch novel for thriller fans.
