Did God not tell us in His Word that one of the reasons Jesus came to earth was to bring us life and give it to us more abundantly? Why Are Church Folk Poor? by Raykel Tolson explains that God desires to give us abundantly. He desires to provide all we need—not just to barely survive, but to live an abundant life. Raykel uses her own life experiences to show how it is possible to go from being a poor, struggling Christian to one whom God graciously and abundantly blesses materially as well as spiritually. Raykel was a single mom who took her needs to Jesus and He blessed her with a nice house and all she needed to rear her son in comfort. Raykel explains what success is and that an abundant life is not the same for everyone.
Why Are Church Folk Poor? is divided into three main sections with each section further subdivided into chapters. In the first section, the author talks about changing our thought processes. This includes changing negative thoughts that many Christians have attached to money and wealth. The second section finds Raykel Tolson encouraging an increase in faith and belief. The third section ties the book together and explains how to live the abundant life that God intends us to live. Raykel answers the nay-sayers that claim that God wants us to be poor in this life so we can be rich in heaven. She gives biblical answers with scriptural references. To make life easier for the reader, Raykel even includes the content of the verses so you don’t have to find a Bible to know what the verses say.
