In his book Why Study?, Uncle Amos did a wonderful job of enabling the reader to be engaged and enjoy a well written book. Danny loved kindergarten and never wanted to leave. Danny even stated: "I'll be in kindergarten until I'm married" and he truly didn't want to move into the first grade. This is because he knew he would have to learn a lot of new things that he wasn't ready to embark upon. Danny was determined that he didn't want to learn any more than what he already had and he didn't want to go to school. However, his mother came up with a super idea and early on the morning of his first day he was scheduled to attend first grade, she and Danny went to various places, meeting people who Danny thought had made it in life. However, he soon realized that construction workers, gardeners, and fishermen had long, tiring days that were not filled with fun and adventure, and were rather filled with hard work and challenges. Does this revelation change Danny's mind?
Why Study? challenges the young reader to do more with their life by learning, growing, and becoming a educated person with more options and opportunities in life. This would be an excellent book to read at school. This would also be a great tool for parents to read and share with their children to encourage them to not become discouraged in school, but rather to dig in harder and become the achiever they truly can become.
