Wicked Little Lies: Molly by Beth Prentice is the first book in the newest Westport Mystery series. While her sister Lizzie bought a house, fell for a handyman, and had a harrowing face-off with a stalker, Molly was dealing with her own mystery and romantic drama. It all started when she made the shocking discovery that she was pregnant. Breaking the news to her boyfriend Matt didn’t go over as well as she'd planned. He immediately gets on a plane to set off on an assignment, or so he says. To make matters worse, her sister has landed in more trouble and Molly receives photos claiming Matt isn’t where he says he is. She enlists her family in a bit of sleuthing to uncover her boyfriend’s true whereabouts, which leads to a startling secret that she never saw coming and a shocking family secret is unearthed that could change everything.
The mystery has references to the previous trilogy and plenty of appearances by favorite characters woven throughout with Lizzie, Riley, Danny, Andrew, and Grandma Mabel all lending their help and support. For readers of the Westport Mysteries, these characters have already been established and will be a joy once again while for newcomers they’ll have no choice but to fall in love with these eccentric and charming characters. The continued presence of the family shows how close their little unit is and how far they’re willing to go for each other, even if it means breaking into a boyfriend’s apartment. Her grandma is kooky and eccentric, the kind of grandma everyone needs in their life, and acts as a great source of comic relief for the story. The mystery itself is layered with several threads that are shocking and will take you on an emotional roller coaster alongside Molly as she struggles to cope with everything going on in her life and is driven to find the truth. Wicked Little Lies by Beth Prentice is a delightful mystery and readers that can’t get enough of cozies, romance, family sleuthing adventures, charming characters, and humor will want to savor every moment of it.
