Although already the darling of smart folks everywhere, it wasn’t until his actual birth in 1963 that Mr Crowder began to meet with any popular acclaim.

He was raised in scenic Rat Town...

In a barn...

By wolves...

Or apes...

Mr Crowder’s advances in the science of rocket surgery cannot be ignored. He is older’n your dad, has an itchy spleen, and a disposition that can only be described as “bad.”

He and his fabulous wife, Gwen, currently live somewhere in the Southeast, with his dogs, Bo & Luke.

In Rat-Town...

Or somewhere else.

Did you know that before they went extinct, dinosaurs were some of the leading apex predators on Earth, pretty much top of the food chain? How much do you really know about them? This is your chance to expand your knowledge about these magnificent creatures with Wild About Dinosaurs! In this fun-filled picture book, Mike Crowder presents some interesting facts about the various dinosaurs that roamed the planet for millions of years. Featuring colorful illustrations, the book covers the different types of dinosaurs, their lifestyles in the environment, and the period they lived in. Learn about the Gojirasaurus, one of the largest theropods of its time, so different from the Jainosaurus, which was 59 feet long and weighed a whopping 33-thousand pounds, yet was a herbivore. Then there's the Ornithocheirus, bigger than any modern bird, and there are many more.

Dinosaurs were a diverse bunch of reptiles. While many of them were carnivores, others preferred a primarily plant-based diet. Wild About Dinosaurs! explores their distinctive habits, features, and abilities, showing why they are still considered to be some of the most extraordinary creatures to have walked on this planet. The book also features some prehistoric beasts that many people might mistakenly identify as dinosaurs. Author Mike Crowder infuses a lot of charm into the narrative with his humorous accounts of dinosaur habits and lifestyles. Additionally, the eye-catching illustrations by the author will be a hit among kids. I can't think of a better way to teach children about dinosaurs than a book like this. It's fun, engaging, educational, and informative in equal measure. Young readers should not miss out on this picture book. I highly recommend it!

Mike Crowder's Wild About Dinosaurs! offers a clever journey through the prehistoric alphabet, featuring a range of dinosaurs and ancient creatures, from popular to lesser-known. The A-to-Z structure assigns each letter a corresponding dinosaur or prehistoric reptile, accompanied by playful notes and scientific information. Crowder writes in a chatty tone, sprinkling each page with light sarcasm and pop culture references. Although the book recognizes the scientific uncertainties and evolving nature of paleontology (including humorous complaints about fragmentary fossils and naming inconsistencies), it embraces these quirks as part of the field’s charm.

The illustrations by the author are bright, quirky, and expressive. They offer colorful visual interpretations that embrace imagination, especially since nobody knows what color dinosaurs were. Mike Crowder playfully speculates that they might have been plaid or paisley, adding to the book’s spirit. While the visual style leans toward the cartoonish, it serves its purpose well: inviting curiosity rather than delivering textbook precision. One of the book’s strengths is the inclusion of lesser-known creatures like the fulgurotherium and kol, and clarification that not all the creatures covered are technically dinosaurs. This honesty, paired with the clear explanations of periods (Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous) and terminology (like “theropod” and “herbivore”), helps lay a solid foundation for budding paleontologists. Crowder also nods to real-world paleontologists, adding a touch of human connection to the science. Wild About Dinosaurs! is a quirky and clever book that turns a dinosaur encyclopedia into an entertaining read-aloud adventure. It’s a nice addition to a child’s home library.

These intimidating lizards dominated the land millions of years ago for millions of years. Wild About Dinosaurs! Wild About Nature! was a lot to take in. I didn't know there were so many types of dinosaurs, and I am happy I got to read this incredible book to learn about them. Written by the talented Mike Crowder, from start to finish, this book kept me amused, informed, and most importantly, intrigued. If I had to choose a favorite out of the book, it would have to be the Gojirasaurus, because who doesn't love Godzilla? The information is written simply, and the author even shows how to pronounce the name of each dinosaur, which came in handy for me as I was struggling a little! The illustrations are colorful, eye-catching, and unique to the book. There is so much to learn from Mike's words, and I can't wait to show my nephew, who loves dinosaurs.
