Wild Call to Boulder Field by Robert Ronning is an adventure story that is both engaging and educational. This well-researched tale stars Wade, an on-leave ranger whose dog recently went missing during a storm. Katy, his girlfriend, urges Wade to find solace on an Arizona trail as he had many times before. Boiling with anger at wildlife hunters, careless campers who start forest fires, and certain "wildlife" agencies, Wade goes stomping up the trail. Unfortunately, he encounters several of his triggers on the mountain. Throughout the trek, a few four-legged characters will make this story memorable for adult and young adult readers.
Danger lurks around every bend and switchback. That’s why I could not put this book down! The story is so believable because the places are specific and the characters are authentic. I feel that we all know someone who is passionate about a cause but is also a bit careless in life. That would be Jesse in this tale. But my favorite character was not a human. This story is suspenseful, entertaining, and meaningful on many levels. What I most liked about it is the theme of man vs. nature. Wild Call to Boulder Field by Robert Ronning also explores the predicament of man harming nature. But along with this serious topic is a fun-filled excursion. The imagery is so realistic that I believed I could smell the scent of the pinon pines in Boulder Field. If you need an escape, hit this Arizona trail for an adventure. You will be so glad you did!
