Yam Meets Zbigniew the Dwarf by Gil Shabtai is a heartwarming story that follows a young boy named Yam on a fun nighttime adventure. One night, while he was in bed, Yam heard a strange sound in his room. Upon investigating, he discovered a dwarf named Zbigniew hiding under his bed. Zbigniew was frightened when he saw Yam, but Yam assured him that he meant no harm. Zbigniew explained that he had lost his family’s magical compass watch, which can help find treasure, reveal secrets, and take its wearer on adventures. Yam volunteered to help Zbigniew find the compass watch, leading to a humorous adventure with a moral lesson about stealing and an encounter with a mischievous mosquito.
Yam Meets Zbigniew the Dwarf is a delightful bedtime story that celebrates friendship, curiosity, and bravery. The chemistry between Yam and Zbigniew makes them an engaging duo. Gil Shabtai's narration is captivating, incorporating relatable elements such as the struggle to fall asleep and curiosity about strange noises at night. The beautiful illustrations complement the story perfectly, with a consistent golden glow that adds warmth and an enchanting touch. I appreciate that the story is open-ended, leaving room for more adventures. I am intrigued by Zbigniew's background, family, and the broader universe he inhabits, and I hope to read more about these characters in future installments. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and highly recommend sharing it with your children. It teaches valuable lessons about how friendship transcends size and background and encourages a spirit of adventure and imagination.
