Author Biography

A certified hatha yoga teacher, Ayurvedic Wellness Educator, and nature-loving gypsy, Julie Bernier brings the ancient practices of authentic Indian hatha yoga and Ayurveda to students in North America. She decodes India's timeless knowledge of wellness for Westerners on her blog Peaceward Yoga.

Julie first found yoga in California and has since taken it with her on some very long and far-flung travels, practicing on whatever flat surfaces she found-- from the beaches of the Galapagos Islands to the jungles of Sumatra, and the rooftops of Himalayan houses to the bustling city parks of Bangkok. She explored yoga's real roots while studying in India and teaching in the foothills and high villages of the Himalayas, and strives to keep her yoga old-school.

Peace of mind and all three elements of health (physical, mental and spiritual), can be developed through yoga. Yoga for Health and Happiness by Julie Bernier is an excellent guide to helping you to develop those elements. Beginning with an understanding of the true purpose of yoga, Julie explains the origins and the traditional purposes which reach beyond today’s fitness classes and goes into the deeper meanings which affect mind and spirit. Yoga is more than the 40 postures and movements that Julie demonstrates and she covers those additional aspects as thoroughly. Learning to breathe properly and to focus the mind while moving through the poses, helps the reader become more in touch with their inner being and is also clearly demonstrated and discussed. There are very clear photos to help guide the reader as well. Through this guide, beginners or ongoing students will be able to fully understand and move forward toward both health and happiness.

Having been introduced to Iyengar Yoga as a therapeutic treatment for a lower back injury, I have desired to continue in the other forms of Hatha as a calming and relaxing means of focusing my entire outlook. Julie Bernier has made it easy for me to move back into the practice with Yoga for Health and Happiness. Many shy away from the mental and spiritual aspects of Yoga because it has always appeared to be “mystical.” However, there is no reason for a Jew, Christian, Muslim or any other person to shy away from a practice which can actually help you deepen your focus on God in whichever way God is envisioned or understood by you. Informative, practical and easy to use, Yoga for Health and Happiness has the potential to not only change your health, but also balance your mind and settle your spirit.
