You Got the Right Stuff by Mark Mazepa is a Christian living book about how God can affect a believer’s life through the Holy Spirit. The book begins with depravity and the question of why suffering exists, using the Fall to establish humanity’s separation from God. From there, the discussion moves on to salvation, where human will sits beside God’s sovereignty before the reader reaches the meaning of becoming a new creation. Biblical terms such as redemption are explained in everyday language as the teaching moves toward the Holy Spirit. Christian conduct then comes into view through the difference between relying on human effort and living through faith. The final portion turns to the Cross, bringing grace into biblical law and asking readers to consider how obedience operates in a Spirit-led life.
Mark Mazepa’s You Got the Right Stuff is a fantastic Christian living resource, and a useful book for readers who want theology they can apply. The writing is approachable, and I love how naturally the teaching is brought into situations readers can picture. The Christian bookstore interview is a perfect example, turning theological self-assessment into a mock hiring form that readers complete for themselves. I also liked the bicycle comparison, where rules are presented as the training stages of learning to ride before dependence on the Holy Spirit is represented by riding on two wheels. That kind of teaching makes the book easy to use, since theological ideas are translated into familiar situations while preserving their biblical meaning. Well-written and full of Christian teaching, readers looking for a study of Spirit-led living will adore this.
