In 11th-century England, a crisis was beginning with a king who was publicly known to be disliked by many, self-absorbed, and lacking in the strategic ability it takes to run the kingdom England was thought to be. For centuries beforehand, England was the most powerful and successful country in the civilized world. When King Edward did not leave an heir to his throne, he not only brought on his own ultimate demise, but also a threat of invasion and war. Harold Godwinson, Earl of Wessex, is after the throne of England with many behind the idea he can take it, but the odds seem to be against the Earl. Although sharp minded, audacious, and strong willed, he is not the only man with aspirations to the throne of England. Will Harold be successful in claiming the throne and becoming the new King of England, or will fate take him on another route?

1066: What Fates Impose by G.K. Holloway is an incredibly well written historical fiction novel introducing readers to the Battle of Hastings in 11th-century England. Reading historical accounts of the famous Battle of Hastings often just gives reader dry, repetitive facts, at times appearing rather boring. G.K. Holloway gives life to the entire story by developing more suitable personalities for historical persons documented to be very much the opposite. In doing so, the author brings excitement and a sense of realism to the story. G.K. Holloway uses very skilled, creative, and intricate detail when creating scenes and character personalities, and thus sets the mood for the reader that is intriguing, breathtaking, and stimulating. A must-read for all who are interested in English history.
