Lucinda’s trip through the rustic countryside in Brandy Rex's novel 30 Miles an Hour took an unexpected turn when she was involved in an accident. No one was around for miles, so Lucinda contacted the local law enforcement. While waiting for the authorities, Lucinda was attacked by people wearing masks and ran into the forest. She came across Henry and Makayla, who lived in a farmhouse that was intentionally disconnected from the modern world. With no way to contact the outside world, Lucinda and her guide set off through the forest, but she soon realized he had ulterior motives. After the tragic loss of their son, Henry and Makayla wanted to bring their beloved son back, and Lucinda stumbled upon the ritual. Lucinda was determined to save the innocent child, the key to this peculiar ritual.
I was intrigued by 30 Miles an Hour by Brandy Rex, and I was hooked from the start until the end. The story picked up speed toward the finish, having begun slowly with detailed descriptions of every scene. The events were sensory-engaging and descriptive when describing the forest and Lucinda's emotions. The suspense had me on the edge of my seat, turning the pages as fast as I could. I had to know what would happen next and was guessing until the end. The characters were well-developed and relatable. Lucinda was determined to survive the forest and return to her family. She was a resourceful person who turned ordinary items into tools and weapons. The writing of the story was excellent, much beyond my expectations. I enjoyed reading this book and am eager to start the next one in this three-part series.
