Where Did I Come From? The Adventures of Sammy the Turtle by Pam Funke is the story of Sammy the baby turtle who is all alone after coming out of his egg. He wants to find his identity and where he comes from. His mother Luna is not around and so Sammy sets out to find her and his brothers and sisters. On his journey to find his family, Sammy meets a lot of interesting characters and has exciting adventures. Some of the characters he meets are helpful, while some want to eat him. The subtle Christian message conveyed to readers through the story is both inspirational and motivational.
It is a delightful story with some charming and colorful sketches that will pull kids into the tale. The book teaches kids good values and gives them hope. It also teaches them how to improve their lives. Books like this can be used in Bible class to spread the message of God and also in read aloud sessions in classrooms and libraries. It is also a good book that can be read out to children at home. Apart from the Christian message, the book is also educational as the story introduces kids to new sea creatures like the octopus, crab, whale etc. I find it a great story for young readers. It's heartwarming, uplifting and exciting. The childlike illustrations add to the charm of the book, giving the characters a personality and making the story very visual and lively.
