Many of us live life without critically examining our path or learning the lessons taught by our successes and failures. In sharp contrast, Costantino Delli has come to understand his life as a learning process, constantly reviewing the events as they unfolded and asking searching questions of himself and those around him. He shares his conclusions in 48 Answers for My Son. This book is presented in an unusual format. Each of the 48 questions was posed to illustrate a particular facet of life, and each answer provides an explanation of the dynamics at play, followed by key takeaways. The author’s life began in Taranto, Italy, where his parents owned a small business. At age five, he survived an appendix surgery that went wrong, before he moved to New York with his mother for a short period. After a brief return to Italy, the family relocated to America. While gifted academically, adapting socially was difficult, and the family lived in relative poverty. He faced bullying and was exposed to domestic violence. Despite the setbacks in childhood and beyond, he excelled. Management training in the banking industry was followed by success in corporate consulting and an exploration of the movie industry. He evolved his own leadership philosophy, began writing, and started public speaking, rising above the challenges and living consciously.
Costantino Delli reflects on his family and the Italian roots that shaped his formative years in what is a record of becoming, rather than a traditional memoir. In later life, his friends, clients, and employers would influence him further. Patterns emerged, revealing who he was and the person he has become. His life lessons include coping with illness, adapting to changing circumstances, navigating parental aspirations, forging a new identity, building stability from chaos, and the caretaker role he undertook to help others. His writing is frank, absorbing, and packed with wisdom. It uncovers a life built on boundless energy, dedication, resolve, versatility, and resilience, combining technical depth with a human touch. He sounds a call for readers to understand themselves and their beginnings, discover their life’s purpose, live with integrity, wholeness, and a sense of responsibility. As a guide to life, 48 Answers for My Son succeeds admirably. It is unusual to bring the role of leadership to the fore. It also serves to generate awareness of his Creative Optimum Self (COS) program, whose principles are shared in a companion volume. His journey is not yet complete, but his legacy will endure.
