In The Conscript: Adventures of Avi Garza Book 1 by Nate Kirtis, Avi Garza was nothing special. He was just like any other fifteen-year-old at his boarding school. Quite simply, Avi is no one. And then it happens. The boarding school is raided. In the midst of the confusion, Avi, now a survivor of something he never imagined would happen to him, is taken away to an academy. This isn't anything like his boarding school back home. This is a military academy where he will have to fight to survive. How can one boy go from nobody to somebody in time to save himself? Can he? And who are they training to fight against?
I would like to take one quick moment to drool over the gorgeous book cover. As readers, we might never admit it, but we all judge a book by its cover deep down, and this one is a winner for sure. So I want to personally thank the author for taking the effort to bless us with such a beauty. And, furthermore, for giving us such great content inside the lovely cover. The official Amazon listing for the book mentions that it's a good fit for fans of Ender's Game and that is true indeed. This has the same action packed, coming of age sci-fi thrills that Orson Scott Card's classic does, and will resonate with a wide range of age groups. I'm in college and I loved it as much as my freshman in high school sister did. And the best part about that picture? She's not a bookworm like me. She hates reading, and yet she devoured this in just a couple days. If that doesn't tell you there's a great read to be had here, I don't know what does. So take a leap into the world building and suspense that Kirtis has written for us. You won't regret it.
